Saturday Market and Horses

It's a beautiful morning, warm and sunny. After sitting to smell the sweet rotting earth and practice my yoga it's smoothie time! coconut papaya and pineapple. I am fond of adding cinnamon and grated ginger too!
Plastic bags are banned so we take out Trader Joe's bag to the market. We need a lot of produce, foremost is the Kanuna Dairy lilikoi goat's cheese. This year it sells for. $6.00
There are some amazing flowers and produce here to view: one is called Blue Jade, tumeric which looks like ginger and a weird translucent fruit called longsat which Dan tastes. He says look out! I am all unsteady and might hallucinate. He needs water to wash that bite out of his body and he's okay. another a furry bird of paradise and the others including ginger. . .
We have planned to attend the Heart for Horses benefit near Kilauea, high on a bluff overlooking the Pacific. We arrive early in the day and at once taken with the horses tied to trees in the shade. One was Percheron, dapple gray, a logging horse from an Amish community in Ohio. Some horses are abandoned, some neglected, some just put out 'to pasture'. This organization feeds and treats the old 'used' horses. They will extend their service to hunting dogs too. For twenty dollars we are happy to help. There were food booths and carriage rides and a silent auction for art.

We hoped to get to a beach today.
Driving through Kilauea, I wanted to stop to buy Dan a valentine gift and he became hungry for Pau Hana Pizza, which we were hoping would be at the benefit. . . we were both successful!
We landed on Anini for a walk and a doze. Even wearing a dress our time was sweet, watching a wind surfer in the bay.
We sat out on the bluff in a soft drizzle awaiting sunset. A woman rushed up with a bag of Bud Lights.
"Do you drink beer?"
"Yes!"
"Please take these, we'll be leaving tomorrow!"
"Sure!"
We popped one open and enjoyed it before dinner. Dinner was a New York steak and baked potato for Dan. Snow crab sushi and grilled asparagus for both of us. Very tender and delicious:)
Dan rented a movie for our evening entertainment. . .One Day, which was a lovely romantic story set in London. Upon going to bed I just started crying though.
I am missing Mirage. I took three pictures of her tonight for my other blog Suzy Guide Dog.
Another perfect day in paradise.

Grace and Kealia Beach

Thursday, a spinach smoothie with the usual friends, pineapple banana cinnamon and coconut. Eating light because kundalini yoga begins at eight. I am not sure I would have signed up for this, had I known. . .being so happy with my studio in Hanalei, but I am curious about Diane Kline  a.k.a. Guru Purkh Kaur, ( revealed after the happy camper kundalini song:) It was well attended and a pleasant awakening on a sunny day in Paradise.
Things only get better from here:
My word today is Grace; she comes in on a Harley. Since I received the message from Cheryl at the Guild for the Blind on Tuesday, I have been processing what I could enter in the show for visually impaired artists. I pondered this in my mind feeling some impossibility. My intention is to support the Guild, and inspire others who are visually impaired to paint anyway. So a great photo of a banana blossom from yesterday was all I needed to power through, after all today is the deadline.I choose a few photos, a first for me, and three paintings that I had scanned into this old laptop, that sit in my closet. Nora, out of the blue sends me an application, electronically from North Dakota and Dan helps me copy and paste it. The artist's statement from last year was a part of a SuzyGuide Dog blog and I was able to refresh it. I called my bank to see if my account contained 30 dollars and was quite delighted to learn a balance of six remained.
With the push of a button its SENT! I call Chicago to make a credit card payment.
Dan and I pack it up and ready for the warmth of Kealia Beach. We settle comfortably onto the sands and revel in sunshine! For two days we have been trying to set up a blogspot account for Rosie, who is traveling in Italy. Today it happens, while laying her in the golden sands of Kauai:)

But wait, there's more. Just when things could get no 'bettah, they do! Dan get's a text from a colleague in Chicago saying a co worker of Dan's is going to work for the Seattle Times. There is a "woop, Whoop" from Dan and he all but jumps up to do cartwheels. Giddy boy! This person has been extremely irritating for a year and a half. I see the color and joy return to my husband's face as he reads and rereads these words, then waits for the official announcement from work in the three o'clock hour,
There will be champagne tonight!
Once home, we shower and whale watch, then out to the bluff for sunset. The colors are heavenly. This has been the best day yet in Paradise. For dinner honey grills Opah for fish tacos with Killer Dan's guacamole and all the fixin's. Television is no way to end such an amazing day,

Limahuli Gardens

Crisp chirp of cricket chorus and ocean's low roar. A beautiful vision of a butterfly emerging from it's chrysalis, yards of ruffly iridescent wings like a bubble skin.

I haven't felt so well; a recurrent headache and chills. Dan and I head to the hot tub to submerge and dilate our blood vessels. That works for an hour or so. We decide to go to the Limahuli Gardens this morning and lunch at the Mediteranean Gourmet. The gardens are beautiful and we capture such beautiful images. I must do  salambasana, poised atop an ancient volcanic fulcrum. An opportunity to 'kneel and kiss the earth."

Lunch is delicious, dan orders the lamb burger and I choose the falafel wrap. The taziki is yummy! Dan has his eye on a very 'old' blonde, dripping with jewels, sitting cross legged in her upholstered chair. All I hear is a husky laugh. Dan thinks she may be Lauren Bacall.
We run home to get our suits on, because this afternoon the weather seems to be turning around for the better. It's off to Anini Bay. We settle near the former Stallone estate and notice a steady stream of foot traffic moving East. Then an officer appears and follows the crowd. Then a second officer with a zip lock bag for evidence. . . . Well, we can't say what went down, but a middle aged woman appeared to escort the fellow with the cane back to the street and the officers dispersed.
Hmmm!
I am going to see Melissa at Yoga Hanalei soon.
10 minute restorative asanas with Melissa-
Baddha Konasana
Forward Fold Upavista Konasana
Janu Sirsana R
Janu Sirsana L
Supta baddha Konasana
Viparita Karani
Savasana
Iyengar : As we age inversions become more important and Viparita Karani is the most pleasant:)
Class is fine.
She says, " In tonight's class we'll explore your relationship with letting go."
I am plenty bendy and go deep on all the 10 minute offerings. My headache eases too. I notice my tendency to strive and breathe into my striving: so funny!
Dan and I make the polenta to serve with the ahi we plan to grill when I return.
Once home, dinner is served and the Ahi is succulent. Dan wishes for more flavor, seasoning salt or something more.

It's early to bed for my lover and me.

Wednesday

Thunderous surf and a tight belly. . . .the cold continues, although without rain today. oh, the relief! After breakfast we head down the hill into Hanalei town and park near the Pines for a stroll.

It is windy due to the high surf and yet we manage to get a couple of miles in. We drive to the Black Pot to stroll the pier and consider eating at Pat's Taquiera Truck. We buy a steak and veggie burrito plas a fish taco, I love the juice mayo flavor:)
Dan wants to visit the Lighthouse so we roll on. I am so cold. The temp is about 68. and it calls for long sleeves. . . we are unprepared to be chilly. The lighthouse is nice; the price is right with my handicapped access pass.
Once home I am ready to seek some sun at the pool. There is also space to work on the bones of my manuscript. Dan comes along with a Coors fruit juice thirst quencher and it's time to dress for the Duke vs North Carolina game. Dan quips, " If God is not a Tarheel, then why is the sky Carolina Blue?"Midway through the game which we are viewing at the Hanalei Gourmet, I realize my curlers are still plugged in! We hurry home  for the second half and are delighted to catch a few pairs of albatross doing their mating dance on our lawn! Dan manages to approach for a video. Hopefully to post to UTube and download here.
Here is another sweet photo of a mother hen who has tucked her chicks into the safety of a tree trunk hollow. . .

We return to the Gourmet for dinner and a glass of wine and our hope of star gazing is not realized: too cloudy. It's early to bed. . . .

Pool time and Table of Contents

Dedicating this manuscript to the memory of my sister Janice, who died as a result of juvenile diabetes. May these asanas dedicated to the preservation of foot health and balance be of merit.

The Foot Sequence

How am I to write a manuscript? It occurs to me I need to do some research, authors do. I have devised a sweet morning routine here on Kauai that will be the backbone of my manuscript. I am blessed and excited to share this revelation! I haven't had to think in many years, so this book is welcomed by my whole being. I hope Dan will agree to be my photographer, so this will be a collabrative effort:)
Each of the 12 poses wich effect the foot and ankle are done for one minute. This sequence can be enjoyed once or multiple times a day! Namaste
